This is the political and judicial center of the Northern Territory. In Darwin, by the water, there is Liberty Square which has the Territorial Legislature, the Territorial Supreme Court as well as some other government offices.
This is the entrance to the Territorial Legislature on Liberty Square. Its architecture is very reminiscent of the State Legislature of Hawai'i in Honolulu.
Theis is the Main Foyer looking towards the rear of the building. Unfortunately the light coming through the windows at the back completely destroyed the colours I saw; it was not this dark. The camera could not get a good focus with that light hitting it.
This is the Speaker's Green behind the Legislature witha view over the bay. It was once the place where the Speaker of the Chamber could rest for a bit but is now open to the public and even has a little restaurant.
This is the library of the Territorial Legislature. The large rectangular object is a quilt made by several people from Darwin showing various points in its history.
This lobby between the main foyer and the library holds several items of histroical importance, most in relation to World War 2. Out of view is a portion of a wall of the post office that once stood here which was damaged by the Japanese raids.
This is the legislative chamber inside the Territorial Legislature. There are 25 members of the assembly elected every so often by the residents of the Northern Territory.
This is Courtroom 1, the "show court" of the Supreme Court. Judging by the 3 chairs on the dais, I'd say that this is where appeals are heard. The large coat-of-arms is that of the Northern Territory.
Since World War 2, Darwin has remained a very important Australian naval center. That day this ship, a missile frigate, the largest type of warship in the Australian arsenal, was docked in the harbour.
This is one of the tunnels dug in World War Two to store oil underground so that it could not be bombed. The war finished before the tunnels were completed or used for large scale storage.
Along the waterfront, there is this interesting outdoor cinema. Named the "Deck Chair Theatre", it shows all kinds of movies, at a discount, and uses deck chairs for seats.
